Hi!  I've never written fan mail before, but I wanted to let you know how much I enjoyed Rookie Teaching for Dummies.  I picked it up last summer, right after I finished teacher's college, and found it to be the perfect book for recent-grad/teacher-to-be.  It's funny, insightful and practical.

Having recently finished my first year of teaching, I've just reread your book and am looking to incorporate more tips and techniques. I recommend your book to everyone, pre-service teachers and veterans alike. Thank you for a great read and resource!

I am a rookie teacher, even though I am starting out my first year at the age of forty. It has not been the most pleasant start. I was hired to teach language arts and social studies, and now I teach science and math; God help these sixth graders—I am elementary certified and am in a Title I elementary school. Not everyone is famous for supporting new teachers (wish I had known). I did get the same advice from your book, from other teachers I work with, and that is to take it with a grain of salt and learn what I could, but otherwise ignore it.

I am reading your book, and while I have found my mistakes, at least now I know. Yours is the ultimate guidebook. I read it in the book store and had to wait a few weeks before I could afford it, but I'm glad I finally have it. You're helping me a lot. Someday, if I ever outgrow your book, I look forward to passing the information on to another  rookie teacher. I really think they ought to give this book to all new teachers, and a district that is worth it's weight in support would! This is a the survival guide that many confused teachers need to make it! I'm taking it to my next new teacher meeting to share with all the new teachers there. I think every teacher can use this book though! New or not! Maybe the name of it should have just been "Teaching for Dummies," as you know we all are once in awhile.

I played games with my kids today! They loved it. I don't think I would have been brave enough before. I have seen big changes in my attitude since your book I trust your judgment totally.

I promised myself I would never purchase any of the "Dummy" series books yet recently purchased your book, Rookie Teaching for Dummies. I'm about to enter my second career, the world of middle-school instruction (after 20 years in corporate), and I found the content of your book especially relevant and your humor quite engaging.

Forget the theory, practical application and tips are what it's all about. Coupled with other books purchased from educational publishers, I think your's is the best reading so far -- I can actually use your information. At least I'll have a "heads up," as I head into the trenches. I would not be able to gather this much practical input from all the teachers I know.

What a helpful guide for someone like myself (who apparently doesn't really comprehend the magnitude and complexity of what I'm about to get into). Just wanted you to know that I consider your book an asset to helping me begin this new career. Most of all, thank you for sharing your experience.

I recently purchased your book, and WOW is it great!! I will be doing my student teaching this fall and I bought this book over the summer because it looked like it had a lot of practical, real advice and information. I was not disappointed; in fact, I was so impressed with it that I talked to the woman at my university who coordinates all of the student teaching and builds the curriculum for student teacher seminars and told her about this book. She said that they have been looking for a book exactly like this to balance out the curriculum (which right now is filled with theory). I have only had this book for about a month and already it is full of highlights, dog-eared pages, and arrows pointing to great ideas.

I have two bookcases full of teaching books, and this one is by far the most useful and practical. Thanks so much, you did a great job on it.

I remember standing in the bookstore about a month ago looking for some guides to teaching. I saw all of these inspirational or theoretical books that seemed to be the same thing that I'm receiving in my M.Ed. program right now. I reached for Rookie Teaching for Dummies, thinking I'd flip through and find really useless things. But, after looking at all of the other books, I realized that the information in yours was exactly what I was looking for.

I purchased it and started reading and taking notes immediately. I now have a 20-page outline of your book that I have printed out and keep in my desk at school. Incidentally, I'm going to launch into my first year of teaching in two days when I'll be teaching Spanish (which isn't my degree) at a high school. I'm very nervous and anxious to get the year started, but I also feel relieved and confident because of the advice and information from your book. Thank you for a wonderful resource.

I have advised some of my teacher friends to buy it, though to be honest, I'm hesitant to tell any of my colleagues about it for fear of giving away my secrets. Also, I want to be the best teacher at the school, so I don't want any body else to have the advantage of your book.

Thank you for writing the much needed Rookie Teaching for Dummies. I've been exploring the possibility of entering the teaching profession and wanted to get a good idea of what I could expect. I appreciate your honesty, experiences, and suggestions more than you'll ever know.

This is the first of the "for Dummies" series I've read completely, in a matter of days; I even took notes. Your book gave me some great ideas about how to control my classroom, creative teaching techniques, getting to know my students, their parents, and the administration. Plus, it introduced legal aspects to me that I wasn't even aware of, along with helpful web sites where I could get more information and help.

I personally believe this should be required reading for all rookie teachers and for seasoned teachers who feel like they've gotten in a routine and need some refreshing ideas. I feel more prepared now about entering the teaching profession, thanks to your book.
